The Hardy Boyz are back together again for one last run in All Elite Wrestling, a run they hope can see them pick up the IWGP Tag Team Championships.
With the arrival of Jeff Hardy in All Elite Wrestling came the official reunion between him and his brother Matt. The Hardy Boyz had last teamed together in April 2019, successfully retaining the SmackDown Tag Team Championships over The Usos before an injury sidelined ‘The Charismatic Enigma’.
As it stands, the duo are currently in possession of the International Wrestling Cartel Tag Team Championships, which they’ve held since the end of April. They’re not done there, however, with The Hardy Boyz’ plan being to capture as many championships as possible before they call time on their in-ring careers.
Speaking to Freddie Prinze Jr. for his Wrestling With Freddie podcast, Matt Hardy specifically noted New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s IWGP Tag Team Championships as a pair of titles they have their eyes on, alongside the titles in AEW, AAA, and ROH (h/t Fightful):
“Our goal here in AEW is to cement our legacy and the first business we want to conduct is winning the AEW World Tag Team Championship. On top of that, I’d love to win the AAA titles, I’d love to win the Ring of Honor titles, I’d love to win the New Japan titles, win them all, and we really want to cement our legacy as the legit GOATs. One of the greatest of all time.”
The IWGP Tag Team Championships are currently held by Bullet Club’s Bad Luck Fale and Chase Owens, with their reign beginning at 1 May’s Wrestling Dontaku as they dethroned The United Empire’s Jeff Cobb and Great-O-Khan.
Together, Matt and Jeff Hardy have held tag team gold in WWE (including the WCW World Tag Team Championships as well), IMPACT Wrestling, ROH, OMEGA, House of Glory, The Crash, Maryland Championship Wrestling, NWA 2000, and Wrestling Superstar. Their longest stint was 189 days as OMEGA Tag Team Champions.
Only Jeff Hardy has wrestled for New Japan Pro-Wrestling as of this writing. He retained the TNA World Heavyweight Championship over the now-Los Ingobernables de Japon leader Tetsuya Naito at 2011’s Wrestle Kingdom V in Tokyo Dome event in a poorly-received match.
