BELGRADE, Serbia—University of Pittsburgh wrestler Nino Bonaccorsi and head coach Keith Gavin have arrived in Serbia for this week’s Under-23 World Wrestling Championships at the Belexpo Center.
Bonaccorsi, who won the 92-kilogram freestyle title at the UWW U23 United States National Championships in May, will represent Team USA when he competes on a huge international stage for the first time in his career this weekend.
The Bethel Park, Pa., native will weigh in and begin wrestling on Saturday in Belgrade, with his first 92kg freestyle match against either Mongalia’s Orgilokh Dagvadorj or Turkey’s Erhan Yaylaci.
Fans can watch Bonaccorsi at the U23 World Championships on FloWrestling with a subscription.
Updates, information and brackets will also be made available by USA Wrestling on Twitter.
Bonaccorsi’s steep rise on the domestic and international stage took off last season for the Pitt Panthers when he established himself as a dominant force at 197 pounds on the collegiate wrestling scene.
The 2021 campaign saw Bonaccorsi earn his first ACC title before reaching the 197-pound final at the NCAA Championships in St. Louis, which made him an NCAA All-American for the first time.
With his attacking style and relentless attitude on the mat quickly making him a favorite amongst Pitt fans and college wrestling supporters across the country, now Bonaccorsi has earned a chance to make his name on the worldwide stage by squaring off with some of the world’s top young talents.
