GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Pitt senior Nino Bonaccorsi and Virginia Tech sophomore Connor Brady have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Wrestlers of the Week following their standout performance versus fellow ranked opponents.
The Panthers’ Bonaccorsi posted two top-15 wins – and made history by earning the 100th victory of his outstanding career in Pittsburgh. Competing at 197 pounds, the Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, native topped No. 13 Jaxon Smith of Maryland by 8-2 decision on Friday night to reach the century mark for college wins. Then Bonaccorsi, ranked No. 9 by InterMat last week, convincingly knocked off No. 8 Michael Beard of Lehigh with a 10-4 decision on Saturday night, helping the No. 17 Panthers earn a 22-12 dual victory over the No. 13 Mountain Hawks in a traditional in-state rivalry.
Competing in the Keystone Classic in Philadelphia, the No. 31-ranked Brady navigated a nationally ranked field en route to his weight-class title. The Powell, Ohio, sophomore picked up five victories on the day at 165-pounds – three over higher-ranked opponents in No. 25 Will Formato of Appalachian State, Penn’s No. 19 Lucas Revano and No. 20 Evan Barczak from Drexel. He added major decision victories over Drexel’s Gabe Walsh and Penn’s Gabe Miller in leading the Hokies to the Classic team title.
