GENEVA, Ohio – Rutgers wrestling closed action at the 2022 Team USA U20 and U23 World Team Trials this past Saturday and Sunday in Geneva, Ohio. Dylan Shawver (61 kg) finished sixth in his weight class to highlight action for the Scarlet Knights at the two-day freestyle tournament.
Shawver opened action to with four consecutive wins to advance to the championship semifinals at 61 kilograms. His streak included a 7-6 victory over two-time NCAA qualifier Michael Colaiocco (UPenn) in the Round of 32 and a 12-8 win over two-time NCAA qualifer Connor McGonagle (Lehigh) in the championship quarterfinals to secure his spot in the semifinals. Shawver would drop his semifinal match and finish sixth.
Sammy Alvarez (65 kg) picked up three wins to open his tournament and secure a spot in the championship quarterfinals. Devon Britton (65 kg), Tony White (70 kg) and Boone McDermott (HWT) all added two wins apiece.

Rutgers finished another successful season under head coach Scott Goodale, as the Scarlet Knights closed the dual campaign with their most wins (16) since the 2012-13 season and their highest final ranking in the NWCA Coaches Poll (14) since 2017. RU qualified seven to the 2022 NCAA Championships – the most since 2017 – and had all participants score at the national tournament. Sebastian Rivera (141) and Greg Bulsak (197) added All-America honors to make it seven consecutive seasons with multiple All-Americans at NCAAs.
