How To Cope And Heal When A Loved One Dies By Suicide
Kim and Brian say they never imagined their 20-year-old son, Bryson, would die by suicide. They say the happy, loved, and helpful young man ended his life on January 16, 2022. The parents say they still hurt, and Brian says he fights his emotions every day. Dr. Phil offers Kim, Brian, and their daughter, Peyton, advice for coping and healing. “You absolutely have to be patient with yourselves. This is an unnatural situation to be in. We’re not supposed to bury our children; they’re supposed to bury us,” Dr. Phil says, adding that he suggests Brian feel his emotions instead of fighting them. “You have to care for yourself.” In the video above, Dr. Phil offers more advice on how to cope when a loved one dies by suicide. On Wednesday’s episode of Dr. Phil, “Public Health Issue: Suicide,” hear from other families whose loved ones died by suicide. Plus, Dr. Phil shares warning signs and risk factors of suicidal people.
