AEW and NJPW’s Forbidden Door PPV is less than 10 days away, and matches are still being announced. One of the latest is an ROH/IWGP Tag Title Match.
AEW and NJPW’s Forbidden Door is one of the highest anticipated wrestling shows in recent memory. The crossover event is the culmination of the working relationship between AEW and NJPW, something that burgeoned since Chris Jericho brought his AEW World Championship to Wrestle Kingdom in 2020.
During tonight’s episode of Rampage, AEW announced another title match that will take place in Chicago. It’s one of the few matches that’s been given a few weeks’ worth of build among an otherwise hectically booked event: FTR, Roppongi Vice (Rocky Romero and Trent Baretta) and the United Empire (Great-O-Khan and Jeff Cobb) will face each other in a triple threat with both the ROH and IWGP Tag Team Championships on the line.
The Empire vs Roppongi Vice vs The Top Guys
This feud began when Great-O-Khan and Jeff Cobb ambushed FTR and Roppongi Vice during an ROH title match on Dynamite. The two laid waste to all four of their opponents. While FTR retained their titles, they were unhappy with the way the match played out.
Dax and Cash called out the United Empire as a whole, which led to Will Ospreay, Aussie Open, and Toa Henare to break down the Forbidden Door themselves. The Empire had a series of matches against FTR and members of Chaos. The culmination of this feud comes on June 26th, when FTR and the Empire will have the chance to take one another’s titles.
Who Will Walk Away With All The Gold?
It’d be hard to deny FTR as the most likely to win it all at Forbidden Door; they’ve been tag champs in every promotion and brand they’ve ever competed in together. However, they’d be making a grave error if they were to underestimate their opponents.
Khan and Cobb are both powerhouses on their own and are already 2-time IWGP Tag Team Champions on their own. Roppongi Vice are 4-time IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Champions. As we head through the Forbidden Door, this tag team title match is truly anyone’s game.
