Mount Union senior defensive lineman Matt Lilja is on the final Allstate American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team.
The team recognizes 22 college football players and an honorary head coach for outstanding contributions to their communities. Lilja is one of four NCAA Division III players in the country on the team.
A 2022 team captain, Lilja has been an All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC selection. He is dedicated off the field with numerous volunteer and community services.
Lilja mentors through Alliance’s Raider Buddies and the Mount Union football team. He joined the Alliance Community Clean Up initiative. He also has volunteered with Mount Union’s Be The Match, Alex’s Lemonade Stand, Lake Shore Park Clean Up, American Heart Association and Kent State-Ashtabula America Red Cross.
Mount Union M Club class announced
The Mount Union M Club Hall of Fame has announced its 2022 class and special award winners.
The 13-person hall of fame class includes Danny Anderson (wrestling), Thomas Bauer (football), Randy Cook (wrestling), Lisa Downey (swimming), Kevin Hopkins (swimming), Kelvin Jackson (cross country, track and field), Matthew Keller (track and field), Sara Leffler (track and field), Sean Moore (football), Seth Peterson (track and field), Justin Rodhe (track and field), Neal Richards (basketball) and Shaun Spisak (football).
The Duke Barret Award will be presented to Jason Jones. Paul Gulling and Matthew Johnson are the Hugh Jae Award recipients. Former sports information director Lenny Reich will be given Honorary M Club membership.
The hall of fame class and award winners will be honored on Friday, Nov. 4 at the Giese Center for Performing Arts. They will also be announced at halftime of the Saturday, Nov. 5 home football game against John Carroll.
