THE first edition of the Asian Under-15 and Under-20 Wrestling Championship, organised by the Bahrain Wrestling Association in co-operation with the Bahrain Martial Arts Council and the Asian Wrestling Federation, under the supervision of the International Wrestling Federation, kicked off yesterday at the Khalifa City Gym.
The championship is being held under the patronage of Supreme Council for Youth and Sport first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa and in the presence of General Sports Authority vice president and Bahrain Martial Arts Council president Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa.
The opening ceremony was attended by Bahrain Olympic Committee secretary general Faris Mustafa Al Kuhji, Asian Wrestling Federation president Dolat Trlikhanov and Bahrain Wrestling Association president Abada Adnan Al Mulla.
Shaikh Salman announced the official opening of the championship. He witnessed the first day of competitions and crowned the winners in the U-15 category.
A total of 675 participants, including 426 wrestlers from 17 countries, are taking part in the tournament.
